Grand Canyon

After sleeping in a teepee behind an indian casino (in Towaoc, Co), we headed to Four Corners, USA. It was just a simple monument marking the location as determined by the USGS with flags from each state and the indian nations near the Four Corners. There were also lots and lots of booths with indians selling crafts, shirts, etc. Evan found a great, hand-carved, wolf-head slingshot, which worked great for about 10 shots before one of the arms snapped! He vented his anger and frustration by pounding a 3 inch hole in the ground with our mallet.


Then, we drove for hours through northern Arizona to get to the North Rim Campground at the Grand Canyon. It was beautiful country with red mesas, interesting holes in rock structures that stick out of the ground, and amazingly views that seem to go on for miles! Evan occupied himself by playing one of his computer games, looking up whenever I said "look at that!"

I was so happy to get to the campground and set up the tent and get our dinner. It was a 10 hr driving day (with plenty of breaks), but I was exhausted and looking forward to not driving the next day and not having to break camp in the morning! We had a very leisurely day, hiked along a rim trail to the Grand Lodge, which was a beautiful structure. Unfortunately, Evan confirmed that he is very afraid of heights and falling, so our hiking was pretty limited. But, the views are amazing, even when you aren't at the edge!
